Skilled Crafts Unit (KB)

Dec. 2024 Update:

UC Berkeley and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (“LBNL”) reached a tentative agreement, subsequently ratified on Oct. 30, 2024, with the Alameda County Building and Construction Trades Council (“ACBCTC”) to extend the collective bargaining agreement for the KB unit for one (1) year.

The KB bargaining unit consists of the skilled trades workers at UC Berkeley and LBNL and the contract is bargained locally.

The contract extension is key to providing continuity of service and positive labor relations for the parties, while also allowing adequate time to fully prepare for the next round of successor bargaining.

The contract extension includes the following:

  • The collective bargaining agreement, set to expire on Sept. 30, 2025 now expires on Sept. 30, 2026

  • A 4% general wage increase, effective Oct. 1, 2025

  • A market rate adjustment effective Jan. 1, 2026, as needed to maintain 90% of the prevailing wage average for comparable positions in the Bay Area

  • The parties will commence successor negotiations no later than April 21, 2025

Questions about the contract extension can be directed to the respective Employee & Labor Relations office at UC Berkeley (hradmin_elr@berkeley.edu) or LBNL (elr@lbl.gov). Represented employees should contact their union representative, Alessandro Powell, at alessandro@btcalameda.org

Contract Status: Contract is effective through September 30, 2025 - UPDATE - Now extended to September 30, 2026 (see Latest Resources below)
