UAW Orientations are mandatory for new employees.
Academic Student Employees and Graduate Student Researchers are required to attend an Employee Orientation with representatives from UAW 4811, the union of Student Researchers and Academic Student Employees at UC. At this orientation, union leaders will familiarize you with your rights, protections, and benefits as a worker under the UC-UAW 4811 Collective Bargaining Agreements.
- The UAW new employee orientations for first-time GSRs and first-time Readers/Tutors are scheduled for Friday, January 16, 2026, from 5:30 PM - 6:00 PM and 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM, in 155 Dwinelle Hall
- The UAW new employee orientation for first-time GSIs will be on Friday, January 16, 4:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. in 155 Dwinelle Hall after the conclusion of the conference plenary session of the GSI Teaching Conference. Conference Schedule
If you are unable to attend the orientation during the teaching conference, you should register at this link for a make-up orientation.
According to the UC-UAW 4811 Collective Bargaining Agreements, found here for ASEs, and here for SRs, all job-related training, including this orientation, count as paid time.
