Making Your Expectations Known: Leveraging UC Experience Conversations for Career Growth

Presenters: Merideth Wakeman and Kelly Crabtree

Session DescriptionAs with these unprecedented times, the workplace experience is shifting in countless ways. The landscape for the overall experience at work is changing immensely. Organizations, managers, and most importantly, employees, are reevaluating what work is, what is important about work, and how it takes place day-to-day.

Never before have employees been more poised to redefine, redesign, and reinvigorate their careers and go after new opportunities.

UC Experience Conversations are a 1:1 discussion and planning process held annually between managers and employees. These conversations are opportunities to revisit and explore (or re-explore) what is critically important to employees, thinking about their satisfaction, engagement, and motivation at work. It’s also an opportunity for managers and employees to discuss topics like career goals, new ideas and perspectives of what working is, and how wellbeing is impacted by our ever-shifting and evolving workplace environment. These conversations are customizable for each person – managers and employees can select the topics they want to discuss as part of a regular check-in conversation. The bank of questions is wide-ranging and includes broader themes like inclusion and belonging, relationships, manager support, and retention.

In this NOW Conference session, participants will learn the UC Experience Conversation framework and process, share survey analysis from a recent UC systemwide pilot– focusing on what made the process meaningful and productive for career growth conversations.

We’ll also create space for both managers and employees to chat with colleagues and plan for how they hope to address career development related topics within UC Experience Conversations.
