Part 1: Prerequisite: Cost Share Basics (eCourse)

Synopsis: This eCourse will introduce some key concepts of Cost Sharing as part of research administration at UC Berkeley. 

Learning Objectives:

- Define what cost sharing is and describe the different types of cost share

- Identify cost share policies and regulations

- Understand the risks of non-compliance to the campus, department, and PI.

Part 2: Cost Share (workshop)

Synopsis: A 2-hour specialty workshop that supplements the prerequisite eCourse Cost Share Basics (referenced above), and details the processes for proposing, setting up, tracking, and reporting on cost-share commitments to a sponsored project.

Learning Objectives:

- Describe the PI and RA roles in securing and monitoring cost share commitments

- Ensure that the proposal contains appropriate documentation of cost share from allowable sources

- Ensure budget includes cost share

- Confirm cost share commitment at award stage

- Monitor cost share throughout the life of the award

- Properly complete cost sharing report

Developing Large & Complex Proposals (eCourse + workshop)

Who this workshop is intended for: New and Veteran Pre-Award RAs (either dedicated or hybrid), as well as other staff that assist Faculty with proposal development.

Part 1: Prerequisite: Introduction to Developing Large & Complex Proposals (eCourse)

Synopsis: This eCourse will offer you a general overview of proposals that are considered large and/or complex at UC Berkeley. It is recommended that you attend the Proposal Development class, as part of the RAPDP curriculum, prior to taking this eCourse, where you will learn the basics of proposal development at UC Berkeley, such as what is a proposal, types of submissions, types of sponsors, roles and responsibilities, common proposal components, analyzing the Request for Proposal (RFP) and preparing and submitting a proposal, and more. This eCourse will focus on additional elements when working with proposals that are considered large and/or complex.

Learning Objectives:

- Distinguish between different kinds of proposal submissions

- Locate funding announcements, proposal requirements and sponsor guidelines

- Create a proposal submission timeline and checklist for coordinating with your PI

- Employ Phoebe system to route proposal to SPO/IAO for institutional review and submission

Part 2: Developing Large & Complex Proposals (workshop)

Synopsis: A 3-hour specialty workshop that supplements the prerequisite eCourse Introduction to Developing Large & Complex Proposals (referenced above), and integrates topics from other RAPDP workshops to explore developing larger, more complex proposals, including working with the Berkeley Research Development Office.

Learning Objectives:

- Identify different types of complex projects and their characteristics

- Locate the applicable funding announcement and sponsor guidelines for proposal submission

- Identify common key players in the development and submission of large/complex proposals

- Identify required proposal components and special considerations

- Discuss special document preparation

- Apply project management techniques related to large scale proposals
