Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the orientation?
Front to back, the orientation takes about 30 minutes to watch. By using the companion guide, you can dig deeper into any of the areas that are most interesting to you. And remember, we encourage you to come back as often as needed to be reminded of the resources available to you as questions arise.
Is this different from BPM Part 1, Grow Today?
Yes, BPM Part 1, Grow Today is a mandatory training required of all UC Berkeley people leaders. This is an orientation, showcasing all of the tools, resources, training and support available to people leaders on our campus. Think of this not as a skills development workshop, but instead as an awareness builder of what's out there to support you.
I'm not a new people leader on campus; can I still benefit from viewing the orientation?
You can! Even seasoned people leaders may not be aware of all of the resources and services available through our campus People & Organization Development team. Please use this as a starting point anytime you'd like a refresher on the support we, and other campus units, provide.
Is this resource appropriate for use by faculty who also manage staff?
The topics covered in the orientation are useful for anyone who manages staff here at UC Berkeley.
How often do I need to view the New Manager Orientation?
While we think it's important for all new people leaders to view the orientation in its entirety within the first month of accepting their role, we hope you will come back whenever you have a question about the support and resources available to you. You're not in this alone; we're here to help!
