About Us

About

The Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) is a department within People & Culture that provides professional learning opportunities and community engagement for staff employees to increase racial literacy and cultural fluency. We are committed to creating a community where all employees have the capacity, comfort, and agency to be their authentic selves at work every day.

DEIB was established at Berkeley in the summer of 2020, amid an ongoing wave of civil unrest and racial reckoning triggered by the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor at the hands of police. To support Berkeley’s commitment to becoming an anti-racist institution, DEIB focuses on addressing workplace issues that create disproportionate impact and outcomes among staff employees and managers.

Mission

Our mission is engage the campus community in transforming their consciousness, cultivating skills, and providing resources to rid the University of California at Berkeley of all forms of racism and sexism. We do this through providing high-quality professional learning experiences, producing and dissemination of useful tools, consultations and strategy advising, and substantive partnerships.
