Discover how to harness the power of your mind to conquer self-doubt and unlock your true leadership potential. Are you haunted by feelings of inadequacy or the fear of failure? Do you struggle to silence your inner critic? This transformative program based on Positive Intelligence® offers three simple steps to shift from self-doubt to self-mastery.

Mental Fitness is your ability to approach life's challenges with a positive mindset, impacting productivity, relationships, peace of mind, and overall well-being. It involves strengthening three core mental muscles: Saboteur Interceptor, Self-Command, and Sage.

The Mental Fitness Operating System: Learn the three-step process - Notice, Stop, Shift - to reduce self-judgment, diminish fear and anxiety, and amplify inner wisdom and compassion.

Step-by-Step Approach:

Step 1 - Notice Your Saboteurs: Become aware of negative emotions that signal your inner Judge's activity. Identify feelings of frustration, fear, or stress and detach from them without dwelling on the negativity.

Step 2 - Stop with PQ Reps: Engage in PQ reps, focusing on physical, visual, or auditory sensations for as little as 10 seconds to divert attention from negative thoughts and emotions.

Step 3 - Shift into Sage Perspective: Utilize Sage Powers like Empathize, Explore, Innovate, Navigate, and Activate. Discover opportunities or gifts in seemingly challenging situations.

Take the assessment to identify your top saboteurs and understand the internal voices that hold you back.

Attendees will learn:

Full Session Description:

We experience conflicts all the time. Conflict is a feature, not a bug. Whether it’s productive or destructive is all in how we are handling them.

This workshop is interactive. Participants are equipped with an Action Guide to integrate the learnings. I’m using case study examples from my practice and slides to illustrate important content.

Conflict is a part of life, it’s healthy! Conflict is part of the operating system. It’s a good thing that we have different opinions, and we want to do things differently. We want to avoid group think and we want to take many perspectives into account when making decisions.

Conflicts at work impact your career development, so let’s get skilled and map out your success!

When mediating and coaching around conflict, I often focus less on what the conflict is about on the surface: “they give me their contributions to the report too late”, “they withhold information”, “they are not staying in their lane”, “they ….”

Instead, I work with the parties on naming their power dynamic, their relationship, and their identities. Identifying what the conflict really is about.

Here are the types of goals and interests people are in conflict about. We use a nifty acronym: TRIP

  • T - topic: what we want
  • R - relational: who we are to each other
  • I - identity: who am I in this interaction
  • P - procedural: what communication process to use

Two goals are consistently propelling disputes and conflicts:

  1. R - relational
  2. I - identity

Attendees will work with a conflict they are experiencing, and we will cover:

  • Diversity profile
  • Belonging
  • Conflict styles
  • Emotions
  • Identity & Reputation

Attendees will:

  1. Walk away with a new understanding of conflict and the importance of identity in shaping the outcome of the conflict.
  2. Be equipped with a conflict resolution template
  3. Start using tools to get more skilled at conflict
  4. Understand when a conflict is about the topic

Discover the transformative potential of student employment. This combined presentation and panel will elevate the significance of both the supervisor and student employee roles, offering sustainable strategies to enhance our programs while cultivating equity-minded, leadership-building experiences.

Supervising student employees offers fulfilling growth opportunities and allows us to actively engage with the heart of UC Berkeley’s mission: serving our students. On-campus employment offers income to students while also providing them an opportunity to gain meaningful professional experience and skills that ultimately prepare them to thrive in a complex work environment. Recent publications validate on-campus jobs as High-Impact Practices (Kuh, 2008), delivering evidence-based educational benefits, particularly for historically underserved demographic groups in higher education. With supervisors being primarily responsible for student employee growth (NASPA, 2019), it is critical that staff get support to develop as supervisors and mentors of students.

Join our panel for a deep dive into real-world experiences, where colleagues will share success stories and practical insights on effective student team management. We will also present a collaboratively crafted resource guide encompassing transformative and tactical dimensions of student employment. This guide not only unlocks the potential of professional development for student employees but also empowers supervisors to provide meaningful supervision and impactful mentorship.

Whether a seasoned supervisor of student employees or exploring the possibility, attendees will: (1) learn how to refine their supervisory practices, (2) grow their network, (3) explore sustainable strategies to effectively manage student employment programs, and (4) design developmental leadership experiences that prioritize equity and inclusivity.

Embark on a journey of discovery, where mentorship, skill development, and career growth intersect. Together, let's shape the future of student supervision and pave the way for meaningful professional development opportunities for both staff and students alike.

Attendees will:

  1. Learn how to refine their supervisory practices
  2. Grow their network
  3. Explore sustainable strategies to effectively manage student employment programs
  4. Design developmental leadership experiences that prioritize equity and inclusivity

Full Session Description:

This presentation focuses on situating the employee with the disability as a targeted population at the center of the discussion. The first Learning Objective is to communicate that employees with disabilities are successful with and without accommodation at UC Berkeley. Employees with disabilities can and do Thrive. “Thriving” means engaging in activities that promote Self-Advocacy in ways that advance accommodation success and wellness. Managing the impact of a disability that substantially impacts one or more major life activities can be stressful and counterbalanced by well-developed support networks that facilitate coping paired with understanding the accommodations landscape.

The second learning outcome of this presentation is to educate yourself so you can make the best decisions when traveling across the workplace accommodations landscape. This outcome focuses on encouraging people to educate themselves about their disability, how it impacts the way they do their job/everyday life, and what kinds of accommodations mitigate barriers. Considering these factors increases the potential for success during the strategic implementation of reasonable accommodations. Employees who understand their role in the interactive process learn how to negotiate accommodations, explore accommodation options, and are better able to make the best decisions regarding their employment needs. The last learning outcome for this proposal focuses on improving and supporting the interaction between a manager/supervisor and an employee requesting accommodations. Creating a safe working setting for people to request accommodations is one of the best ways to ensure success. The cornerstone of success is based on effective communication between manager/supervisor and employee that is collaboratively oriented towards mutual respect and cooperation. The presentation will conclude with a question-and-answer session.

Attendees will:

  1. Understand that employees with disabilities are successful with and without accommodation at UC Berkeley and thrive.
  2. Know how to how to educate themselves to make the best workplace accommodation decisions
  3. Be prepared to create a respectful and cooperative interactive process interaction with managers and supervisors when negotiating workplace accommodations

Sound Healing

Take a break to tune into self-compassion through gently guided breathwork, nature imagery, and the calming sounds of alchemy crystal singing bowls. Singing bowls can support the brain entering a theta state (or pre-sleep) and help you access the benefits of a regulated nervous system.

Preparing for a virtual sound session with Joy:

  • Connect with your best speakers (phone, computer, or headphones) to hear the sounds clearly. Your wifi will impact the quality of the livestream.
  • Notice what your body needs. Find a comfortable place to rest. If seated or lying down, consider how to support your neck and lower back. Maybe you prefer to gently stretch or walk outside for fresh air during this break.
  • Remember singing bowls should never cause any physical pain. If you experience physical discomfort --for any reason– please be kind to your body by removing yourself from this virtual experience.
