Layoff: First Things First

Take the time to read all the material you've received. There are action steps you may need to take regarding your benefits and possible end dates.  Explore the Resource List on this website and utilize the available information, resources, and support

The following five things are particularly important.  Details are included in the information you have received from your department.

  • Review the contract or personnel policy that covers your appointment to learn about your rights and responsibilities.
  • Set up an appointment with Transition Services (llundberg@berkeley.edu) to access job search support resources and services.  
  • Know about your benefits. Some deadlines are extremely important and can affect what happens to your health or retirement benefits. What will happen to your health and other insurance? Check on deadlines for making a decision about retirement.
  • If you are feeling very upset by what has happened, contact Employee Assistancefor support or guidance.
