PPSM 20 Local Implementing Procedure
Local Procedure 20: Recruitment and Promotion
Thank you for your feedback on our update of UC Berkeley’s local implementing procedures for PPSM 20 (Recruitment and Promotion) to help advance the goals of our Principles of Community and Strategic Plan. We have made these changes to ensure consistent and equitable hiring processes across campus. Some of the change highlights include:
-
Minimum posting duration: Management/Senior Professional (MSP) - 14 calendar days from the date posted which will begin the next business day (mirroring Professional Support Staff (PSS) requirements).
-
Required Training: In order to ensure each search participant understands UC's obligations related to equal employment and affirmative action, hiring managers and members of the search committee are required to complete training prior to serving on a committee (to be renewed every 2 years). This training includes:
-
UC Managing Implicit Bias in the Hiring Process (BE-IMPBIAS6-ECO)
-
Search Advisory and Hiring Committee Best Practices (UC-BE-SAHC)
-
Applicant Statements for Contributions to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB): Supervisor and Manager level positions (i.e., classified as Supr 1-2 and Mgr 1-4) will include a brief statement submitted by the Applicant for the hiring manager/search committee’s review that will outline their past, current, and future contributions to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) in their work.
People & Culture will make the revised local implementing procedures effective February 1, 2021.
We highly recommend visiting the UC Learning Center to take all required training soon so you can be fully prepared. Hiring managers and search chairs should also start asking panelists to complete the training before participating in any searches, effective February 1, 2021. If you have any questions, please reach out to us.
