Sonya Scott has been an Adviser in the College of Letters & Science at UC Berkeley for over 21 years. Believing that each moment is a teachable moment, Sonya strives to act as a coach who will challenge, motivate, encourage, and celebrate students, while holding them accountable and providing a new perspective for them to consider. With a passion for working with underrepresented students, in L&S Sonya devotes expertise to the Sophomore Success Committee, the Arts & Humanities Neighborhood, and satellite advising at the African American Student Development Office. She is also the Supervisor of the L&S Intake Advising Team.
Sonya has a MA in Career Development from John F. Kennedy University School of Management and a BS in Business Administration from the University of Southern California. She has been working in higher education since 1990, as an Admission Counselor, Student Activities Coordinator, and Program Coordinator.
An Oakland native, Sonya loves cheering on the Warriors, participating in civic endeavors with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is a Board Member of the Oakland Public Conservatory of Music, and administers the C. Scott Memorial Scholarship. Sonya’s free time is spent meeting up with her musician daughter on tour and working on her small jewelry business, “Charmed with Soul.”
