Over the past few years, UC has made notable strides in supporting work-life balance, including the introduction of the Pay for Family Care and Bonding program in 2021 and protected leave following reproductive loss in 2024. A new proposal, entering systemwide review on April 1, 2024, would continue that progress by significantly expanding access to paid sick leave.

UC is now seeking to expand paid sick leave for part-time and full-time employees effective January 1, 2025, and the Office of the President invites comments on proposed revisions to PPSM 2.210: Absence from Work.

If you are planning on retiring on 7/1/24, please run two different retirement estimates to see which is more financially advantageous for your particular situation:
  1. One with a 6/27/24 separation date and a 7/1/24 retirement date 
  2. One with a 6/29/24 separation date and a 6/30/24 retirement date

Tax time is here – the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) began accepting 2023 tax returns on Monday, Jan. 29, 2024. In the coming weeks, UC employees, former employees and retirees will be able to access forms verifying their 2023 income (Form W-2 and/or 1099) and health coverage (Form 1095).

UC recently learned that between May 27 and May 30, 2023, our dental insurance carrier, Delta Dental of California and affiliates, experienced a data breach in their MOVEit file-transfer software program. (This incident is separate from the Delta Dental of California/Orrick breach that occurred in March of this year).

UC is committed to supporting faculty and staff — and that includes enhancing benefits, programs and policies designed to help employees balance their work and personal lives. Beginning Jan. 1, 2024, UC’s leave options will expand to provide eligible employees with up to five days of protected leave following a reproductive loss. This change aligns with California legislation that will be effective Jan. 1, 2024.

UC Systemwide Human Resources recently learned of a change in provider authorization processes next year for UC Medicare Choice members who see UCSF Health providers. Because provider choice is a critical part of choosing a medical plan, the Open Enrollment deadline for retirees has been extended until Monday, Nov. 27, 2023, at 5 p.m. to allow you more time to understand your options.
