Berkeley Executive Search is the internal executive search service at the University of California, Berkeley. Our goal is to search, identify, and present qualified and diverse candidates to our senior leadership and hiring authorities. We partner and advise, and we work diligently and with integrity and service-focus.


What is Berkeley Executive Search?

As each hiring leader and the position he/she/they wish to fill is different, we partner and collaborate with leaders, hiring teams and search committees to understand the function, the position, and the business needs. We provide various advisory and process support to each search, depending on the specific needs of the hiring leader and his/her/their team. It starts with communication and a (quick) meeting so that we can (quickly) learn how to best partner & support. We advise on the position and the search strategy, we conduct extensive nationwide outreach to broaden the pool, and we manage the complex process steps to strive for alignment among the search participants for a positive and successful outcome.

Who leads Berkeley Executive Search? 

 

Yahaira Maldonado

Yahaira Maldonado, Talent Acquisition Manager, with over 15 years of HR experience in different areas of HR. She holds an MA in Labor Relations and a BA in Human Resources from the University of Puerto Rico. She has been with UC Berkeley for 5 years. Currently, she supports Executive search and manages the Talent Acquisition team that services 94% of the University recruitment needs.

James Kao

James Kao picture

James Kao, Executive Search Manager, is a Cal alum and possesses a Masters in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins in London. James joined UC Berkeley Talent Acquisition Team in 2015. At Berkeley, James has successfully partnered with committees and project managed searches for various departments, cross-functions, project teams, and reorganizations. James took on executive searches where he advises campus executives and recruits talented individuals for senior-level staff roles. Before coming back to Berkeley, James was part of the management team in visitor services at MoMA in New York where he oversaw lobby operations/administration and developed & managed staffing proposals for special curatorial projects.

Harrison Chan

Harrison Chan photo

Harrison is a Cal grad who returned to his alma mater after some time in the technology sector. In his role as an Executive Search Associate, he supports both the internal executive search function at Berkeley and departments within Finance and Administration, including the Controller's Office, Student Affairs IT, and portions of the VCA's immediate office.
