Kala Stepter (she/her)

Bio/CV:

Kala is a K-12 educator and systems thinker who seeks to grow in and cultivate the strengths of our communities. Stepter has redesigned classroom and school cultures to deconstruct systems of oppression by implementing the liberatory design model for families and community stakeholders, developing recruitment and hiring practices in DC Public Schools, and encouraging youth to engage their curiosity through project-based learning. Now in her role as Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Coordinator at Oakland School for the Arts, Stepter uses her experience as a teacher to facilitate staff and student learning around identity, equity, and belonging, address cultural and systemic inequities through the development equity rubrics, and promotes DEIB initiatives practices through OSA’s senior leadership team.
