What is Moving Beyond Bias (MBB)?

Moving Beyond Bias (MBB) at UC Berkeley is an effort facilitated by a campus-wide team to implement the MBB learning program. Developed by the University of California (UC), MBB explores how bias operates and how we reduce its harmful impact on students, employees, and community members across campuses within the UC System. Through a combination of research, storytelling, and engaging activities, MBB motivates participants in their roles to reduce bias, shrink disparities, and foster diversity and inclusivity within our campus community.

What is the 'Moving Beyond Bias' eCourse series?

There are 2 tracks of a series of 5 eCourses - one designed for all university employees, and one customized for UC Admissions Officers & Readers.

Where do I start?

There are two Moving Beyond Bias learning tracks; one developed for all UC employees and another required for Admissions Officers & Readers. Check out more details below.

We encourage all our UC Berkeley employees to take the following Moving Beyond Bias eCourse series.

What additional Moving Beyond Bias learning and development options are available?

For Organizations and Teams: Request Moving Beyond Bias Training Dialogue After Completing the E-Learning Organizational Consulting
UC Berkeley has numerous trainers who are certified on the Moving Beyond Bias Model. Teams can request a live training instead of the e-learning series. The program runs for 1-day. 

For teams: If your team has already completed the e-learning series or a live training and would like further exploration of the topic, you can request a 1-2hr dialogue facilitated by the UC Berkeley Moving Beyond Bias group. 

For all employees: 2-3x annually, the Moving Beyond Bias team will invite (over email) those who have finished the Moving Beyond Bias training program (e-learning or live instructor-led) to a dialogue about enhancing the individual and institutional strategies.

 For leaders on campus, the UC Berkeley Moving Beyond Bias team offers 1:1 and group consulting focused on enhancing the Individual Strategies in module 4 and the Institutional Strategies in module 5.
