UC Eye Center Now Accepts UC Care & Blue Shield Insurance

February 10, 2016

 Optometry Building

As of February 1, the UC Eye Center on the Berkeley campus will accept patients with UC Care or Blue Shield medical insurance.  This means that patients with UC Care or Blue Shield plans will now be covered for medically indicated services provided by the UC Eye Center, including: management of chronic eye disease (glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinal disease, diabetic eye disease, dry eye, etc.), urgent care (eye injury, inflammation, infection, etc.) and certain minor surgical procedures and medically necessary laser procedures.  In addition, the UC Care and Blue Shield PPO plans will not require a medical referral to receive eye care services at the UC Eye Center.  Patients with Blue Shield HMO will require pre-authorization.

Dr. Christina Wilmer, Director of Clinics and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs says that “providing top quality eye and vision care to our patients has always been a priority for Berkeley Optometry.  And now as eye care providers for these additional insurance plans, we can provide expanded medical eye care services to our current and future patients.”

The UC Eye Center -- internationally recognized for excellence in patient care and leadership in vision research -- is located on the east side of campus, just a block or so from Memorial Stadium.  The UC Eye Center is open 7 days a week.  Visit www.caleyecare.org to book an appointment, or call 510.642.2020.
