On Friday, Feb. 26, 2016 the campus announced that it is mailing notification letters to about 80,000 current and former students, employees, and vendors about a cyberattack on a UC Berkeley system that stored their Social Security numbers and/or bank account numbers.

Those impacted would have received a payment from UC Berkeley as a student, employee, or vendor estimated between the time period of 2004 through 2015. Most were non-salary payments.

On January 20, 2016 the National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced new stipend levels for fiscal year 2016 Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Awards (NRSA). Blue Shield has informed UC Human Resources that it has reached agreement on a contract with Sutter Health effective Feb. 1, 2015. This means that Sutter-contracted hospitals and doctors will continue to be participating providers in the Blue Shield network.

Blue Shield and Sutter terminated their contract on Dec. 31, 2014, leaving more than 200,000 Californians—including UC faculty and staff enrolled in UC Care, Blue Shield Health Savings Plan and Core—caught in the middle and uncertain about their future relationship with their Sutter doctors.
