UC Berkeley offers two recognition programs for campus employees, the Staff Appreciation and Recognition (STAR) Plan and Non-Cash Awards.
Staff Appreciation and Recognition (STAR) awards allow the campus to acknowledge and reward exemplary performance and contributions by employees. It is governed by Personnel Policies for Staff Members (PPSM) 34 which provides guidelines for all University cash recognition awards.
UC Berkeley offers Achievement and Spot Awards under the UC STAR Plan.
1. Achievement Awards ($2,000 - $10,000): For sustained, exceptional performance and/or significant contributions above and beyond normal performance expectations. May be awarded to an individual or team.
2. Spot Awards ($500): For special contributions to a specific project or task, or group of projects or tasks, accomplished over a relatively short time period. May be awarded to an individual or team.

Campus Guidelines: Purpose and Type
STAR Awards at UC Berkeley are intended to recognize and reward individuals, and teams of employees, for demonstrating Berkeley's Operating Principles:

In addition to the STAR Plan awards, departments can recognize specific contributions to the departmental mission or strategic plan via Non-Cash Awards (non-cash, up to $75 in value).
Non Cash Awards (under Definition & Criteria)
Recognition Awards (non-cash, up to $75 in value) are for specific contributions to the departmental mission or strategic plan. Recognition Awards are in the form of non-negotiable gift cards, certificates, plaques, or a range of pre-selected items of limited monetary value. Non-cash awards are limited to up to $75 in value.
