Status Quo

THE STATUS QUO PERIOD: WHEN A CONTRACT EXPIRES

When a labor agreement between the University of California and a labor union expires, some of the provisions in the expired contract continue in force and others lapse. The status quo requires the University to maintain the same wages, hours, and terms and conditions of employment for represented employees that existed at the time the contract expired, until an agreement with the union is reached.

Since bargaining began in mid-December, the University of California has been frustrated with the progress of negotiations with UPTE and believes that negotiations have yielded little movement toward a new contract covering 8,600 research and technical employees.

Police Officers Unit (PA) Bargaining Unit Update

Bargaining Update – Police Contract Negotiations

UC presented the Federated University Police Officers Association with a revised offer for a new four year contract on May 22, 2013. The revised offer would provide guaranteed wage increases each year for four years, with the first 3% wage increase effective upon ratification of the contract. In the University’s original offer the 3% increase was to take effect in July. In practical terms this means that if FUPOA voted to ratify this new offer on June 7th for example, the 3% wage increase would take effect on that date.
