Staff Belonging Training and Consultation Services

Staff Belonging Training and Consultation Services

The Office of Staff Engagement and Belonging supports UC Berkeley staff and managers in strengthening their capacity, advancing the university’s mission, and putting the seven principles of community to practice within the workplace. We offer customized professional learning experiences that are educational, community-building, grounded in critical thinking and self-reflection, and aligned with the vision of becoming a “model workplace, free from historical inequities, where employees from all communities are valued and succeed.” Led by Katrina Pantig Naval, Learning and Development Strategist, these services are designed for individuals and teams committed to excellence and continuous improvement.

Services

Consultation

A collaborative, solution-focused conversation designed to address your most pressing needs. Consultations will include a combination of helping triage immediate/urgent challenges and connecting clients with campus resources and developing project-specific goals or plans. This service is ideal for individuals or groups who have diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging work within their portfolio.

Workshop
A facilitated session focused on foundational knowledge, using evidence-based frameworks, reflection prompts, and multimedia tools. Workshops are designed to raise awareness and deepen understanding around a specific topic. This experience is ideal for teams or departments seeking a shared learning experience—whether part of a retreat, conference, speaker series, or onboarding program.

Training

An in-depth learning experience focused on skill-building through interactive activities, and group discussions. More time is allotted within a training compared to a workshop for additional content and audience engagement. This experience is ideal for teams that require focused support in developing specific competencies—such as unconscious bias, navigating microaggressions, or designing inclusive onboarding practices.

Criteria for Participation

For the program to have the intended impact, we invite all interested in engaging to consider the following criteria:

  • Critical Self-Reflection - We ask for openness as we give feedback, ask questions (to get a better understanding of your experience, needs, etc.), and have a mindset of continuous improvement.

  • Practical Application - We ask for your willingness to incorporate counsel provided by program experts.

  • Planning - We ask for your willingness to use the available intellectual, human, and fiscal resources to actualize Staff Engagement and Belonging goals.
