In April, Secova, Inc., working with UC Human Resources, will begin reaching out to certain employees and retirees to reverify the eligibility of some dependents for health and welfare benefits. If you are selected as part of this reverification process, Secova will request information verifying the current eligibility of your spouse or domestic partner, grandchildren or legal wards.
Time away from work for a pregnancy, illness or unexpected injury could mean months without a paycheck. While UC’s basic employer-paid disability insurance offers some protection – a benefit capped at $800 per month for six months – it probably won’t be enough to cover your expenses.
For a modest monthly premium, UC’s Voluntary Disability Insurance replaces much more of your income – 60 percent of your eligible pay up to $15,000 per month – for increased financial security when you need it most.
What is Berkeley’s plan?
It is important that we continue to invest in our staff who provide essential support to the academic mission of the university. Therefore, we are pleased to announce that this year once again we will fund a combination of merit based increases and bonuses, and we will continue to address equity issues relating to compensation for similar job titles across campus. Consistent with the directive from the UC Office of the President, responding to feedback from the staff, across-the-board increases are no longer permitted.
Starting with the 2015 tax year, a new IRS Form 1095 will be issued, as required by the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
UC began the Payroll Personnel System (PPS) Initiative after a 2009 assessment found PPS inadequate for meeting UC’s complex operational needs. Built on 30-year-old technology, PPS is difficult to use, maintain and enhance, and requires redundant data entry, manual calculations and significant paper processing. An RFP was issued in February 2011 to find a suitable replacement of the UC payroll system.
An update on the initiative and the process for securing a vendor is provided by UCOP at the following website: http://workingsmarter.universityofcalifornia.edu/projects/payroll-personnel-system/news-and-updates/.
