Session Description:
Many professionals face one of two common career challenges: 1) Early-stage professionals—excited to start their careers but unsure which paths align with their strengths, interests, and values, or 2) Mid- and late-career professionals—experienced and busy, yet uncertain whether their current path maximizes their growth, fulfillment, and impact. Without clarity on mission and direction, professionals often feel reactive: networking is awkward, job searches feel aimless, and opportunities for meaningful contribution can be missed.
This interactive workshop helps participants define a clear career mission and direction, grounded in purpose and desired impact, and translate that clarity into practical next steps. Through guided reflection, structured career-mapping exercises, and facilitated discussion, participants will identify what energizes them and where they create the most value, map strengths, traits, and opportunities to roles, projects, or career transitions, and learn strategies to communicate career direction confidently through networking, informational interviews, and internal career conversations.
The session emphasizes practical tools participants can immediately apply, building
relationships and community to propel career progress. It is inclusive and trauma-aware, with flexible reflection prompts that honor diverse career paths, identities, and experiences.
By the end of the session, participants will leave with renewed clarity, motivation, and a concrete action plan to take their next career step, while contributing more intentionally to UC’s mission of teaching, research, and public service.
