Grounded in Values: Building Your Foundation for Career Growth and Impact

Presenters: Mayra Alexandra Hernandez and Alex Ojeda

Webinar Description:

Work at UC means navigating competing priorities daily. Projects advance while deadlines approach. Service responsibilities continue as team needs shift and institutional conditions change. Without a reliable way to decide where attention should go, decision-making becomes reactive instead of deliberate, and potential goes unrealized.

In this Coaching HQ webinar, ICF-certified coaches Mayra Alexandra Hernandez and Alex Ojeda guide UC staff through a structured exploration of personal values as a foundation for clearer professional choices. Values serve as an internal reference point that helps individuals evaluate demands, respond to change, and act in ways that reflect professional integrity rather than simple efficiency. When you know what you stand for, you can explore your potential with intention rather than exhaustion.

The central tool of the session is the Values Decision Framework, a practical four-step reflection that participants apply to real workplace situations. Attendees consider moments when important values compete, not only when priorities differ, strengthening their ability to navigate complex expectations. The framework supports thoughtful decisions in the face of shifting responsibilities and uncertainty. When staff use values to guide their choices, communication becomes more consistent and collaboration more intentional, empowering teams to deliver reliable service across the university.

Through guided reflection, short prompts, and small group dialogue, participants practice using this framework in a work-relevant context. Sharing is optional, and examples focus on workplace situations rather than personal disclosure.

Participants leave with a repeatable decision tool, greater clarity about how their values shape their work, and increased confidence navigating professional demands within the UC environment. This session invites participants to explore their deepest potential through values discovery and empowers them to carry that clarity forward: for themselves, their teams, and the future of UC.
