Session Description:
Working parents and caregivers often feel caught between two unspoken expectations: give everything at work, and give everything at home. When both matter deeply, the result is frequently exhaustion, guilt, and burnout – not because of lack of commitment, but because of unsustainable pressure.
This reflective, research-informed virtual session invites participants to move beyond the myth of perfect balance and toward work/life harmony – a more realistic, humane approach that acknowledges seasons, shifting priorities, and limited energy. Participants will explore:
- how chronic overload impacts the nervous system, decision-making, and emotional resilience, and
- why burnout is not a personal failure but a predictable outcome of constant depletion.
Grounded in neuroscience, burnout research, and caregiving realities, the session introduces a simple visual model that contrasts constant output with intentional recovery and reprioritization. Special attention is given to parenting and caregiving responsibilities, including invisible labor, emotional load, and the pressure to “do it all” without complaint.
Rather than prescribing rigid systems, the session centers around individual agency. Through guided reflection, participants:
- clarify what matters most in this season of life
- identify where guilt or unrealistic expectations are draining energy, and
- develop a personalized prioritization approach that supports both meaningful work and a sustainable home life.
Participants leave with a practical reflection tool and a short action plan designed to reduce burnout risk, strengthen boundaries, and reinforce the truth that putting family and personal life first does not diminish professional value – it makes sustained contribution possible.
Learning Outcomes:
-
Explain how competing work and caregiving demands contribute to burnout and chronic stress.
- Differentiate between “balance” and “harmony” as sustainable approaches to work and life.
- Identify personal priorities based on current season of life.
- Apply a values-based prioritization framework to reduce guilt and energy depletion.
- Implement 1–2 realistic practices that support both work effectiveness and personal well-being.
