UCPath

UCPath is the University of California’s human resources information system. It is the system of record for UC Berkeley faculty, staff, student employees, and certain affiliated non-employees such as visiting scholars, volunteers, and consultants. It is a UC-wide system that includes HR, Payroll, Benefits, Absence Management and -- at some locations such as Berkeley -- Talent Acquisition Management (TAM), a staff recruitment component.

UCPath has been the HR system of record for UC Berkeley since March of 2019. The TAM component of UCPath was rolled out to UC Berkeley in September of 2019. Prior to those dates, UC Berkeley’s HR system was known as HCM (Human Capital Management). It is now referred to as “Legacy HCM”. Visit the Berkeley UCPath website to learn more.

Legacy HCM

From July 1st, 2002 until March or 2019, UC Berkeley’s HR system was PeopleSoft Human Capital Management (HCM). Employee records from UC Berkeley’s Legacy HCM were converted to UCPath if they were in active HR Status at the time of the conversion or, if they were terminated within the 2019 calendar year prior to conversion.

TAM Job Requisitions and Applicant Profiles that were current at the end of August 2019 were converted to the UCPath TAM module.

Legacy HCM has been retired but Workforce Detail data from it is available using the campus reporting tool, Cal Answers. Please see this Job Aid: Legacy HCM Employee History: Cal Answers on how to find Legacy HCM records for former employees not converted to UCPath.

Legacy HCM Code values and usage

Both Legacy HCM and UCPath are PeopleSoft applications. Some of the Code used in the two systems are similar in structure, such as Action Reason codes. The set of Action and Action Reason Codes differ between the two systems as does the usage of these codes. Sometimes the same code will have a different usage in the two systems.  Other codes, such as Leave Codes, were used in Legacy HCM but have no direct equivalent in UCPath.

The following links are available as references to help interpret Legacy HCM data found in  CalAnswers. They reflect the current values, descriptions and usage at the time of Legacy HCM retirement in March 2019.
